Oswald's Tree 2 - Growing and Bearing Fruit.
Oswald's Tree 2, just a year after Oswald's Tree, looked at how St Oswald's should develop Ministry and Mission within the market town of Oswestry. Almost 80 members of the congregation gathered together on 5 February 2011 in the Parish Centre to discuss our progress towards achieving what we said we would do in our Mission Action Plan.
Under the headings:
GROWING TOGETHER - through Worship and Prayer;
GROWING UP - through Teaching and Nurture;
GROWING MORE - through Evangelism and Outreach; and
GROWING OUT - through Justice and Care
seven groups discussed our successes, our failures and what we can do to improve.
Celebration of the King James (8 photos)
A First Edition King James Bible of 1611 went on public display at St Oswald’s Church in 2011. The exhibition formed part of a six-day event to mark the 400th Anniversary of the ‘Authorised Version’. At the heart of the celebration was a non-stop Bible read-through, which took about 83 hours of reading to complete and could involve up to 300 people. The Psalms were read publicly around the town, but most of the read-through will took place in the church, running continuously throughout the day and night. The 1611 Bible, which was lent by the Museum of the Book in London, was used for the opening and closing readings of the Biblethon.
